Integrated information center for research and preserving of Russian post and philately history knowledge will be created in the Central museum of communications

On the 11th of October 2011 in Rossvyaz’ jurisdictional A.S. Popov Central museum of communications the second science and practical seminar on post and philately history was held. The first similar seminar was organized in 2010 within “Zero milestone” project, which is the winner of “Changing museum in the changing world” competition. This year the seminar was dedicated to 50 year anniversary of the first human space flight.

At the seminar specialists of A.S. Popov Central museum of communications, Publishing and trading center “Marka”, Pulkovo observatory, Space memorial museum, Moscow and St. Petersburg philatelic associations and other specialized organizations made their presentations. In the seminar representatives of museum society, historians, researchers and collectors, specialists in the field of culture and St. Petersburg universities students took part.

During the seminar temporary exhibitions from the participants’ collections were presented. Among them: exhibition “The first in space” from the Fund of A.S. Popov Central museum of communications and regional philatelic exhibition of St.Petersburg philatelic union “Petersburg’ vernissage. Postal collections week – 2011”.

Participants of the seminar recognized the increasing interest to the historical information in the modern society and wide variety of museum and educational work, which is based not only on capabilities of modern information technologies, but also on the creative approach of museum employees to their work.

At the seminar it was decided to proceed with the creation of Integrated information center for research and preserving of Russian post and philately history knowledge on the base of A.S. Popov Central museum of communications, under aegis of the Federal Agency of Communications, with participation of “Russian Post” and “Marka”.

The target of the Center creation is preserving, researching and public presentation of historic data about Russian post development, its place in European postal communications, and transferring of this knowledge to next generations of researchers. Results of the Center activities will be used in science and research works, interdisciplinary projects, presentations of specialists and publications, including international print media.
